When it comes to videos of soldier reunions, it’s usually the soldiers who come home to surprise their loved ones with their early arrivals. This video, however, flips the tradition military surprise on its head. There are more than 150,000 U.S. soldiers fighting for the U.S  in the Middle East. Many of these men and women spend months, and sometimes years, away from their families and friends.

In 2007, Oprah brought soldiers a little unexpected joy. In the following clip, 31 soldiers have literally just returned to the states from a seven-month tour of duty in Iraq. Many of them hadn’t even been home yet before making a stop at The Oprah Winfrey Show. But these Marines from the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Alpha Company, and Naval Corpsmen were in for a huge surprise. The heroes take their places on stage and are met with roaring cheers from the audience.
