• Wow! Mother Goose Finds Police Officers And Leads Them To Her Trapped Babies

Over the course of 26 years on the Cincinnati Police Department, Officer James Givens thought he’d seen pretty much everything… until the day he was led on a literal wild goose chase by the wild goose itself!

While sitting in his patrol car in a parking lot one day, Givens was approached by a goose who repeatedly pecked at the patrol car. Thinking the bird was just hungry, Givens offered it some food, but she didn’t seem interested. Instead, she kept pecking and quacking.
According to Givens, “She just kept pecking and quacking. Then she walked away, stopped and looked back. Then came over again and pecked some more.”
Clearly, she was trying to get his attention for a reason. The second time the goose walked away and looked back towards him, he decided to follow her. It’s a good thing he did.
The goose proceeded to lead Givens to a grassy area near the creek about 100 yards from his patrol car. As he got closer, he noticed that one of the goose’s babies was tangled up in some string from a balloon. This mama goose apparently knew to reach out to the cops for help, just as any human parent might do if their child was in distress!
Although Givens knew the young gosling needed help, he was wary about approaching it in case the goose misinterpreted his actions and attacked him. He radioed the local SPCA, but no rescuers were available at the time.
Thankfully, Officer Cecilia Charron, one of Givens’ colleagues, heard his call and offered to assist. Perhaps more trusting of a female presence, the mother goose just watched calmly as Charron untangled her baby.

Once the baby was free, he rejoined his mother and swam away to safety as Givens and Charron looked on, totally amazed by what they’d just experienced.
Officer Charron even started to tear up, and said that this was the highlight of her 24 years on the job.
“It seems like something made up,” said Givens. “It was just incredible. I honestly don’t know why I decided to follow her, but I did. It makes me wonder – do they know to turn to humans when they need help?”
We’ll probably never answer that question, but at least in this case, everything seems to have worked out for the best.
